BIOGRAPHY
Joey Green was born in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1959.  He formed his first band with high school buddies when he was 16 years-old. The band was called “OZ” and performed original music as well as music from Led Zeppelin, Kansas,  Neil Young,  Blue Oyster Cult, The Allman Brothers and Bruce Springsteen.

In 1984, Joey re-located to New York City where he met  bassist/producer Brian Stanley who helped him form an indie rock band called the "Jury".  The Jury had  moderate success with their first EP release entitled “Shyboy” in 1988 (Kangaroo records).    In 2000 , Joey emigrated to Vienna and has been performing in various bands focusing on the music of Ray Charles, James Brown, Stevie Wonder and Billy Joel.

More recently however,  Joey Green has become very serious about songwriting.

As he puts it;    "Songwriting is a craft.  For me, it’s best to start with an idea that has been sparked by some emotional feeling, experience or event.   I enjoy writing about the ups and downs of life.  The joy and tragedy of it. I want to reflect on this experience for as long as possible.  But the bottom line is, it must be real and it must possess continutiy--something lacking in today's fragmented popular music culture."

In 2018, Joey Green has been focusing his artistic energy on original music only.   After an extended hiatus from songwriting,  he  is "hitting it hard"--recording, producing and performing his own brand of groovin', sassy and rockin' original music with Joey Green Band,  one of Vienna's most authentic, dynamic rock bands.

Featuring Joey Green on vocals/piano/hammond organ,  Tommy Boeroecz  (Ostinato, Stella Jones) on drums/vocals,  Hannes Steif  (Monty Beton, Andrew Young) on bass,  Lukas Vendl on guitar  and Mona Gusterer on vocals.

“Trumpty Dumpty”,  “Love, Love, Love”,   "Livin' On Borrowed Time,  "I'm Comin' On To You",   "In The Doghouse Again" ,  "Teardrops Back In Her Eyes", are just a few of Joey Green Band’s most recent releases.  (all available for streaming on Spotify,  Deezer and I-Tunes.)

PURKERSDORF (bw). US entertainer Joey Green from Springfield, Massachusetts performed live on stage Friday evening at "The Stage" in Purkersdorf.

As an audience survey revealed,  fans became aware of the concert in a variety of different ways.  "I heard about it on the train today and became curious," said Inge Schaubschläger from Deutschwald.  Word of mouth also attracted Herbert Fischer and Renate Riermeier to Purkersdorf:  "Our son Valentin went to school with the son of Joey Green." On the other hand Sabine Braunstorfer and Marion Holzmann were lucky and won their tickets on the website freikarte.at.

What's more, the regulars were not missing: Purkersdorf webmaster Gerhard Bürgmann had already liked a previous appearance of Joey Green and this time experienced  the "rockier" side of the US entertainer.

With Michel Nahabedian on saxophone, Christoph Helm (Bad Powells) on guitar, drummer Tommy Böröcz (Ostinato), bassist Hannes Steif (Monty Beton)  and vocalist Mona Gusterer,  Joey Green Band rocked and grooved the audience with nearly two complete sets of original rock numbers.

COMMENT
Indie Rock Instead Of Cover Songs

After several theme evenings covering the songs of Billy Joel,  Ray Charles and Nat King Cole,  Joey Green has gone back to his own  "roots",  performing his original songs in Purkersdorf.   In his protest song,  "Trumpty Dumpty" , the US entertainer expounds mercilessly  on the absurdity of the current US president.    Many of Joey Green Band songs are now online on  iTunes,   Spotify and  Deezer  or on Soundcloud, where they have been played over 2 million times.    In his fourth performance at  "The Stage" in Purkersdorf,  Joey Green & Band created an emotional spark that jumped to the third rail of rock & roll!

PURKERSDORF (bw).

KOMMENTAR
Indie Rock statt Cover Songs

Press Article--NÖN Purkersdorf--April 6th, 2018 (Lisa-Maria Seidl)

NÖN: Was beeinflusst Sie dabei?

NÖN: Welche Projekte stehen an?

Joey Green Band At Kunsthaus Horn

Joey Green Band At Kunsthaus Horn

Joey Green Band-Press Review-NÖN Horn. (Judith Blaim)

English Translation

Enthusiastic Applause | US songwriter Joey Green shows Horn his relaxed and humorous side.

Horn, Austria, 21.04.18--Massachusetts born musician and songwriter Joey Green performed with his band on April 21st  at the Kunsthaus Horn.   In today's increasingly heartless political climate, he wants to set a concrete counterpoint saying:  "To be happy, it is enough to release love within your heart."

The singer started his original musical career New York City in 1985.  In 2000, he and his Viennes wife returned to Vienna and settled down to start a family.  In 2017, he returned to songwriting founding Joey Green Band.   Some of his influences include, Ray Charles, Nat King Cole, James Brown, Stevie Wonder and Billy Joel.

"Love, Love, Love", "Comin' On To You" or "In the Doghouse Again"  are his most recent releases, which have already impressed millions of people on the Internet. Perhaps it is the central theme of love that the artist consciously uses to show that the yearning for security and warmth lies dormant in everyone?   It was clear the audience was not averse to this idea last Saturday evening in Kunsthaus Horn as their enthusiasm for Joey’s music and his unique style of humor was plain to see. Wild applause prompted Joey Green Band to present further songs from their repertoire.

          Trumpty Dumpty     (words/music: Joey Green-2018)

Trumpty Dumpty   Sat On A Wall
Trumpty Dumpty   Had A Great Fall
All the Kings Horse---All the King’s Men.
Couldn’t put Trumpty Back together again!
No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No!

Whatever happened to Honesty?
Respect for everyone?
Yellow, red--black or white
We all come from---the same Sun.

Cold eyes, cold soul,   heart of stone.
Tweetin’  out lies on his bloody phone.
Lyin’ with each tweet he makes.
Lyin’ with each breath he takes.
Big mouth, big head, little man.
Nuclear codes in a lunatics hands.
America’s gone and done it too!
 „Hitler’s“  from  Fifth Avenue!

What we gonna do?   Dump him! Dump him!
What we gonna do?   Dump him!
We we gotta do?        Dump him!  Dump him!
What we gotta do?    Dump him!

Fake news, hate news blows my mind
Alternative facts—out of line
Liars, liars pants on fire!
USA  danglin’ from a wire.
Children shot dead in their schools
Blood-soaked books ain’t got no use.
Whitehouse, Congress, NRA
Tellin’ us all we gotta do is pray.

What we gonna do?   Dump him! Dump him!
What we gonna do?   Dump him!
We we gotta do?        Dump him!  Dump him!
What we gotta do?    Dump him!

Love, Love, Love   (words/music: Joey Green-2017)

I woke up this morning---just before the dawn.
The Moon was on the other side---of the horizon.
I got this feeling---- time is moving on.
Where is it going?  Where did it come from?
Then I turn on my pillow.  She is lying there next to me.
Sleepy smile on her face.  I love her warm embrace.

Love, love,  love---love is really what we’re searching for.
If you have love in your heart—you won’t need much more.
I said  love, love,  love---love is really what we’re living for.
If love lives in your heart---you’ll never be alone.

Sometimes life’s not easy.   And we all need a helping hand.
Someone to listen.  Someone to understand.
Someone to laugh with and someone to cry with too.
A friend to lean on when you just can’t make it through.
We all get rained on---just as sure as the sun will rise.
But it won’t really matter if there’s sunshine in your eyes.

Then I turn on my pillow.  She is lying there--dreamin’ next to me.
Sleepy smile on her face.  I love her warm embrace.
The love that she sends my way.  Brightens up each day!

Love, love,  love---love is really what we’re looking  for.
If you bring love in your heart—you won’t need much more.
I said  love, love,  love---love is really what we’re living for.
If love lives in your heart---you’ll never be alone.

Livin' On Borrowed Time     (words/music: Joey Green-2018)

Cool, Spring mornin’---month of May.
Turquoise sky---beautiful day.
Desert flowered valley—down New Mexcio way.

Flute is playing--- tune on the spur.
His heartbeats a drummin’---standin’ next to her.
Walking together, with something to say.

The snow is fallin’ and it’s cold outside.
Above us the  Sun is shinin’.
A child laughs and an old man cries.
Turnin’ on the wheel.

Livin’ on borrowed, livin’ on borrowed time.
Don’t you know we are livin’ ?
Livin’ on borrowed, livin’ on borrowed time.

Lost in her eyes.  She runs to his arms,
Holding each other so close.
They will never let go---never let go!

I guess that’s how it’s supposed’ to be?
Me  lovin’ you----you ---lovin’---me?
As long as we can—as long as we can.

Time marches on and the seasons fly.
Look at all these children!
Our faces change as the years go by.
Turnin’ on the wheel!  We are!

Livin’ on borrowed, livin’ on borrowed time.
Don’t you know we are livin’!
Livin’ on borrowed, livin’ on borrowed time.
I said we are all livin’!
Promise tomorrow—you will remember me?

Livin’ on borrowed,  livin’ on borrowed time.
Don’t you know we are livin’ ?
Livin’ on borrowed, livin’ on borrowed time.
Don’t you know we are livin’ ?
Promise tomorrow, you will remember me?
Don’t you know we are livin'?
Livin’ on borrowed, livin’ on borrowed time.
Don’t you know we are livin’ ?
Livin’ on borrowed, livin’ on borrowed time.
Don’t you know we are livin’!
Promise tomorrow!

Pick Up The Telephone      (words/music: Joey Green-2017)

Sure as rivers flow—to the deep blue sea.
One thing you should know, before you leave.
When the night is long and lonely
And you out there on your own.
All you gotta do—Is pick up the telephone.

From the day we met-I knew right from the start.
I never would forget-The lovin’ in your heart.
And I will do whatever I have to-To keep you safe and strong.
All you gotta do little girl--Is pick up the telephone.

Pick up the telephone and call me.
When you’re feeling cold & low.
Pick up the telephone  and call me.
When there’s no where else to go.
Pick up the telephone and call me
When you need a helping hand.
I will always understand--Oh yeah!

Years they come and go-no one can deny.
I cherish everyday-you by my side.
And as you set out on your journey-curious and alone.
If you ever need me-pick up that telephone.

Pick up the telephone and call me.
When you’re feeling cold & low.
Pick up the telephone  and call me.
When there’s no where else to go.
Pick up the telephone and call me
When you need a helping hand
I will always understand.

In The Doghouse Again      (words/music: Joey Green-2017)

Now it happened last Saturday night.
The boys and I were  doin’ alright
Drinkin beers and playin’ pool.
Feelin’ so Hollywood cool.
The time sure did fly.
And so did I when I took one  look at the clock.

I raced home----of that you can be sure.
When I got there—she had locked all the doors.

I’m in the dog house again.
I’m in the dog house again.
I made the wrong move my friend.
Now  I’m in the doghouse again.
I’m gettin’ down on my knees
I’m beggin’ pretty please.
I’m in the doghouse again.   Oh no!

Now sleepin’ in the  doghouse ain’t fun,
When you wake up with the morning sun.
Rememberin’ what went down last night,
You can feel that somethin’ wasn’t quite right.
So I put on my shoes and I headed for our back door.

She was standing ---right in front of me.
Fire in her eyes---is all that I could see.

I’m in the dog house again.
I’m in the dog house again.
I made the wrong move my friend.
Now  I’m in the doghouse again.

I’m gettin’ down on my knees
I’m beggin’ pretty please.
I’m in the doghouse again.

I’m in the dog house again.
I’m in the dog house again.
I made the wrong move my friend.
Now  I’m in the doghouse again.

I’m gettin’ down on my knees
I’m beggin’ pretty please.
I’m in the doghouse again.

I'm Comin' On To You    (words/music: Joey Green-2017)

You caught my eye last Friday night.
The dress you was wearin’--sure was tight.
And when I gazed into your eyes---
I saw a ragin’ sea.

I won’t tell you no big fat lies.
I won’t promise you paradise.
I just wanna get lost—in your eyes.

I’m comin’ on to you! I’m comin’ on to you!
It’s in the way you move. It’s in the way you groove.
I’m comin’ on to you!

You’ll never know how you make me feel.
I don’t know what’s fake or real.
And I’m screaming for you to please--rescue me!

Now,  I won’t tell you no big fat lies
And I won’t promise you paradise.
I just wanna get lost—in those eyes.

I’m comin’ on to you! I’m comin’ on to you!
It’s in the way you move. It’s in the way you groove.
I’m comin’ on to you!

I’m comin’ on to you! I’m comin’ on to you!
It’s in the way you walk. It’s in the way you talk.
I’m comin’ on to you!

I been dreamin’ what I might do,
If I could get you—all alone.
We’d could play a game that I call,  “cherry pie”.

But, I won’t tell you no big fat lies.
I won’t promise you paradise.
I just wanna get lost—in your eyes.

I’m comin’ on to you! I’m comin’ on to you!
It’s in the way you move. It’s in the way you groove.
I’m comin’ on to you!

I’m comin’ on to you! I’m comin’ on to you!
It’s in the way you walk. It’s in the way you talk.
I’m comin’ on to you!

I’m comin’ on to you! I’m comin’ on to you!
It’s in the way you live. It’s in the love you give.
I’m comin’ on to you!

Teardrops (Back In Her Eyes)   (words/music: Joey Green-2017)

Watch out what you do.
Be careful what you say.
Don’t let the things you want  in life,
Stand in your way.

Cos’  love is the hardest thing,
To find in this  ole’ world.
If you get lucky and find it boy,
You better hold on to it girl.

Now I been round’ long  enough to learn,
This life ain’t just a dream.
Things don’t always work out right.
Life ain’t what it seems.

You know you can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube.
You can’t put the raindrops back in the sky.
Can’t put the bad boys back in L.A.
And you’ll never put those teardrops back in her eyes.

So think twice before you speak.
If you wanna save this dance.
Cuz’ words cut----just like a knife.
You only get one chance.

You gotta tell her how feel,
Each and every day.
If you do it---with love in your heart,
Nothin’ ll stand in your way.

Now I been all around’ this world,
and there’s one thing I can say.
If you find someone to love,
Love them all the way!

You can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube.
You can’t put the raindrops back in the sky.
No you can’t put the bad boys back in L.A.
And you’ll never put those teardrops back in her eyes.

You never gonna, never gonna put those teardrops—back in her eyes.
You never gonna, never gonna put those teardrops—back in her eyes.

Words can take you down, down, down.
Or words can bring you higher, higher.
Words can take you down, down, down.
Or words can bring you higher, higher.

You never gonna, never gonna put those teardrops—back in her eyes.
You never gonna, never gonna put those teardrops—back in her eyes.
