Mean Streets was founded in 2009 by Danny Chicago & Joey Green. In reality, the band came out of Tuesday night sessions at the Tunnel, hosted by guitarist Oliver Gruen. Vienna's blues, rock, country & rhythm & blues musicians would meet religiously---every week, in the basement of the Tunnel. There they would grind out passion-borne renditions of unforgettable music--much of it improvised "in the moment". It was THE place to be back then--on a Tuesday night.... It was in the cauldron of that "musical ethos" that Danny Chicago & Joey Green met one night on stage jamming. And as they say, the rest is....not history! It goes without saying that two expat "Amis" living in Vienna--one from New York, the other from Chicago--clicked right off. Soon after, Mean Streets was founded and quickly added Kevin McManus on drums, Alwin Miller on Sax and Robbie Ster on bass. The band went on to play a lot of gigs in Vienna--mostly private, celebrating the music of iconic artists from the R & B, Blues and Soul eras including, Sam & Dave, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Wilson Pickett, Al Green, Junior Wells, Robert Johnson, Elmore James, Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Ray Charles, Stevie Winwood & Grand Funk Railroad to name just a few.... After a 10-year hiatus, on Saturday, September 13th, Joey Green will rejoin his rhythm & blues brothers and Mean Streets will celebrate once again, some of the grooviest, funkiest feel-good music you will ever hear live!
